Ongoing Partnership Initiatives
Shop Local Alaska
BuyAlaska partnered with Voyij.com, an eCommerce marketplace exclusively for Alaska businesses to create the Shop Local Alaska program. This initiative is designed to market authentic Alaska products through the communications of major travel suppliers. The Shop Local Alaska program has gained the support of Royal Caribbean Group and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. who have pledged to help sustain the health and growth of Alaska businesses in port towns and beyond. With an ultimate goal to maximize revenue going to Alaska businesses and to show authentic Alaska to our visitors, the program hopes to reach all major travel suppliers to Alaska, local Convention & Visitor Bureaus, and more.
“Alaska is the premier destination place in the world,” said Governor Mike Dunleavy. “I am committed to deploying all resources that result in increased partnerships like the “Shop Local Alaska” initiative that spurs Alaska’s economy and directly benefits small businesses across our state.
The Impact of Local Spending in Alaska
With the need to obtain Alaska-specific data on the impact of a dollar spent in Alaska, BuyAlaska commissioned a study on local spending through the University of Alaska Center for Economic Development. Their findings are key to understanding why encouraging local spending is important, and why the BuyAlaska program exists for building economic resilience.
