During “Starting a Business – Wasilla,” our Mat-Su SBDC Business Advisor, Misty O’Connor, will discuss the initial steps and considerations for starting a small business, such as:
- business licensing;
- legal forms of business;
- business record-keeping;
- hiring employees;
- business planning; and
- access to financing.
This workshop will be available In Person at the Mat-Su SBDC Office (location below). Please register early, as In Person seating is limited.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Misty O’Connor, Director, Mat-Su Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Misty has over 20 years of entrepreneurial experience as the founder of two successful businesses. As the owner of Point Click Learn, an educational technology company that sold proprietary software to schools and provided professional development to educators in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York for 15 years, Misty gained valuable insights into sales, marketing & advertising, professional development, grant writing, creating financial projections, and establishing distribution channels. Misty’s second business was a family-owned special events venue located on her rural property. Misty, her father, and her two children ran the venue business hosting weddings, family reunions, graduation parties, bridal and baby showers, and garden club tours of the grounds. As outdoor and private venues for weddings and special events have become very popular, she looks forward to sharing her 15 years of experience with the SBDC clients. Misty has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the University of Evansville, and a Master’s of Arts degree in English from the University of Central Florida. Throughout her career and partnering with the SBDC at Gannon University in Pennsylvania, Misty used her knowledge and experience to assist other small business owners start their own businesses. Misty’s passion is working with people to see their entrepreneurial dreams become a reality and she’s now excited to assist in building and strengthening of Alaska’s small businesses.

WORKSHOPS, FEES & ENTERING DISCOUNT CODES:
- “No Fee” Workshops: No credit card is required. To access our workshops, click on "Workshops" from the menu on the left. To register for a workshop, open it and click on "Sign Up" above the workshop title. Click on “To view the course.” Enter your first name, last name, and email address. Click on “Register.” You'll now have access to the workshop video. If the audio is muted, click on the volume icon to unmute the volume.
- Workshops with a Fee: You'll be prompted to enter your payment information. If you have a "Discount Code" enter it in the "Coupon Code" box, and click "Save." Access to the workshop video and handouts will be available after payment has been processed. You'll be emailed a receipt. To access our workshops, click on "Workshops" from the menu on the left. To register for a workshop, open it and click on "Sign Up" above the workshop title. Click on “To view the course.” Enter your first name, last name, and email address. Once you've signed in, click on “My Events,” from the menu on the left. Select the workshop from the list of workshops you've registered for. Scroll down. Below the “QUESTIONS OR TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES” section, you'll see the list of any available presentation handouts for that workshop to download and open.
